Call to Worship 1 Peter 1:17-25

People of God, are you sure you want to do this?

We’ve come to follow the Resurrected One.

You know he welcomes you just as you are.

Christ welcomes us, all of us, just as we are.

You know he welcomes, and he transforms.

You won’t be the same if you follow this Christ.

We’ve come to follow the Resurrected One.

You sure you want to do this?

Are you ready to experience the Resurrection?

Rise, Christ, within us.

Transform our hearts until we love like you.

Renew our minds so we may see the Kingdom.

Heal our souls and make us whole.

Alright!  You can’t say I didn’t warn you.

Let’s follow the Resurrected One!

Let’s worship Jesus Christ!

Call to Worship for Baptism of Our Lord 2017

We are marked by sin from birth.

Just as greedy and dirty as a clump of sod.

We are marked by sin in life.

Just as selfish and muddy as a worm.

But something has changed, someone changed…

God loved us.  God changed us.

God’s love is a free gift to us, always and forever.

Wash us, Free us, Change us!

We are marked as God’s beloved.

We have done nothing to earn this!

We are marked as God’s people.

We will live as God’s disciples!

Confession written August 8, 2011 at Richmond Hill

Refreshing, renewing, resurrecting Lord of the waters,

Forgive me.

Forgive that I have become so

stagnant

in my spiritual life that what once was living waters

has now become

green

pond

scum.

Forgive me.

Forgive that I rush the rapids so violently from one task to the next and never see the scenery

nor hear your voice above my own foam and roar.

Forgive me.

Forgive that overflow my banks

taking on too much much much much

threatening to drown those around me

with all my selfish, self-serving surf.

Forgive me.

Forgive that I do not return to you, my source

and so I dry up,

trickle

barely

moving

in between the dusty dry cracks of my bed.

Forgive me.

Fill my dead pools with life again.  Refresh me.

Slow my rapids to the pace you intend.  Renew me.

Train my tributaries to pull from you and not the chaos of stormy life.  Restore me.

Show me where you want me to go.  Redirect me.

Resurrecting Lord of the waters, hear my repentant prayer!

…silence…then turning to one another…

The Good Lord of the waters has heard your prayer.  Peace of Christ be upon you now.

“Hands” (Call to Worship) June 2014

Lord Almighty, it was your hands that worked that clay and made us.

Creator Hands.

Lord Jesus, it was your hands that were nailed to that ugly tree.

Savior Hands.

Lord Spirit, it is your hands that mold our hearts and renew our spirits.

Redeeming Hands.

God of hands, we don’t have much.

I give you my hands.

                   Take them, use them,

Use our hands to dig into the dirt and renew the garden.

Use our hands to heal the brokenness in the world.

Use our hands to wipe away tears.

God of hands, we don’t have much.

I give you my hands.
